Marie Fossum Strannegård has been appointed as the new CEO of AxSol. She most recently held the position of CEO at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and has a background in the energy sector with previous roles at Fortum and Ericsson, as well as being a partner at EY.
Founded in 2020, AxSol has become a leading player in the Swedish and Nordic solar energy market. Axel Johnson established AxSol with the ambition to invest in, build, and develop leading companies in the solar energy sector. AxSol is currently the majority owner of Solkompaniet and EnergiEngagemang, with a significant stake in Epishine and Otovo, as well as in newly launched Lykta, Qurrent, and Emulate.
Marie Fossum Strannegård will assume her position after the summer, succeeding Johan Bergström, who has led AxSol since its establishment in 2020. Johan Bergström is leaving Axel Johnson but will remain as board member of the solar power marketplace company Otovo, where AxSol is the largest shareholder.
Thomas Ekman, Chairman of the Board at AxSol:
“Marie Fossum Strannegård’s strong experience at the intersection of technology and energy, combined with her powerful leadership, will strengthen our companies as we enter the next phase for AxSol. Based on the position we have built under Johan’s leadership and with our high and long-term ambitions, I am confident that Marie, together with the AxSol team and our companies, will take the next step from being a promising to a leading solar energy company. We aim to drive development in the Nordic markets and grow solar energy into a significant pillar within Axel Johnson.”
Marie Fossum Strannegård has a broad background with executive positions in the field of energy, technology, and business development at companies such as Ericsson and Fortum, as well as being a partner at EY. She comes from the role of CEO at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, a research institute with over 400 environmental specialists conducting research and commissioned work for companies and authorities.
Marie Fossum Strannegård, incoming CEO of AxSol:
“I am looking forward to returning to the energy sector, which is in an incredibly dynamic period, especially regarding solar energy, the fastest-growing energy source in the EU and on the verge of a breakthrough in Sweden – a development that AxSol aims to drive. Additionally, I am excited to join AxSol and Axel Johnson, whose combination of impatient innovation, clear values, and long-term perspective creates a truly exciting context.”
