Solkompaniet and EnergiEngagemang Merge

6/2/2025

Solkompaniet and EnergiEngagemang are merging to develop and strengthen their market-leading position in large-scale solar power and energy storage, with the ambition to lead the energy transition in the Nordics. Both companies are majority-owned by Axel Johnson through AxSol.

The merger creates a company with a complete value chain – from project development and construction to long-term operation and maintenance. With ongoing projects across Sweden, the company is well positioned for continued growth.

Together, Solkompaniet and EnergiEngagemang hold a leading position in both utility-scale solar and battery parks, as well as large commercial rooftop installations. The merger will also provide increased financial capacity for both large-scale projects and Nordic expansion.

Marie Strannegård, CEO of AxSol and incoming CEO of the merged company, comments:

“This is a natural step that strengthens our position. By combining our respective strengths, we are creating a company with unique experience and capability. The energy transition requires players with both technical expertise and financial strength. With this merger, we are creating the best possible conditions to profitably finance and execute the large-scale projects needed to reach climate goals.”

Camilla Wideroth, CFO at Axel Johnson and Chair of the Board at AxSol, adds:

“From Axel Johnson’s perspective, we want to consolidate these operations to ensure the best possible competitiveness in an important, growing, and challenging market. The company now being formed will have the breadth and expertise needed to lead the growth of large-scale solar power in Sweden and the Nordics.”

The new company will operate within four strategic business areas with clear competitive advantages:

  • Development – Project development of large-scale solar and battery parks with its own portfolio of land and lease agreements, along with deep regulatory expertise
  • Utility – EPC deliveries for utility-scale projects with a focus on technical excellence and high capacity for executing large projects
  • Commercial & Industrial – Tailored energy solutions for property owners and industry, with a comprehensive approach from financing to operation
  • Service – Long-term operation and maintenance of facilities with an in-house service organization and technical support

The formal decision on the merger will be made at Solkompaniet’s annual general meeting on June 16. During a transition period, both companies will continue to operate as usual, and the new organization will be presented after the summer.

The company has already secured several strategic land lease agreements and has a strong pipeline of projects under development. Expansion plans include further establishment in Norway and Finland within the next two years.
